this is an online campaign for the new mayor of istanbul, ekrem imamoglu. this is the first time in 22 years that the mayorship was passed on to the secular, left wing opposition party.
the style was inspired by the anatolian rock movement in music, genre was known for using conservative anatolian melodies and instruments with liberal, protest lyrics. anatolian rock is often sampled in current western hiphop artists’ music -like mos def, action bronson and j. dilla.
ekrem imamoglu, although having culturally conservative anatolian values, is a liberal and shares a similar cultural impact with anatolian rock.
the texts are taken from imamoglu’s one particular speech, made right after the board of election announced unjust decision for re-elections.
